Count trucks and trailers in warehouse yards from above
GeoSpectre counts the trucks, trailers and shipping containers it can see in aerial imagery of a yard, a terminal or a whole industrial area, outlines each one and keeps the date of the picture with the count. Use it to compare yards across a region, size up a site before a visit or find the busiest yards in an area. It counts one dated picture; it is not live yard tracking. Plans start at $49 a month.
How it works
- Draw the yard, or name an industrial area
- Ask for the trucks, trailers or containers to count
- Each one is outlined and counted, with the date of the picture
- Compare yards and dates, and share the counts
Searches you can run
- Trailers parked in warehouse yards along the interstate
- Shipping containers stacked in the port terminal
- Distribution centres with trucks parked at the docks
Write the search the way you would brief a colleague. There is no fixed list of things to pick from.
What it can see from above
- Trucks, trailers and shipping containers, each outlined and counted
- The yard and the buildings, outlined with their area measured
- Roads, rail lines and highways around a site, from OpenStreetMap
- The owner on record of the site, where US public records publish it
What it cannot tell you
- Activity through the day or week: one picture is one moment
- Whether a trailer is loaded or empty, or whose it is
- Vehicles inside a building, under a canopy or deep in shadow
- Anything that moved after the date of the picture

Prospecting
Finds, outlines and counts across a yard or a region.
Imagery
Two dated pictures of a yard side by side, and a fresh capture to order.
Intelligence
Ask what is around a site, such as rail lines or the nearest port.
Monitoring
Watch the yards you depend on and hear when a clear new picture arrives.
Can satellite imagery count trucks and trailers in a yard?
Yes. Ask it to count the trucks, trailers or shipping containers in a yard or terminal and it outlines and counts each one it can see in the picture. Each count belongs to the date of that picture, which is shown with the result.
Can it track yard activity every day?
No. It counts what is visible in one picture, and the included imagery can be months to about two years old depending on the place. For a watched yard we check every six hours for a clear new picture, but we do not count trucks on each new picture automatically. When you need a current view, you can order a fresh capture separately.
Who uses yard counts from above?
Teams that need to compare many yards they cannot visit: sellers of yard and fleet services looking for the busiest sites, analysts comparing operators, and people choosing a site who want to see how its neighbours use theirs.
How recent is the imagery?
The included imagery shows detail down to about half a metre, which is enough to see parking lots, roofs, pools and the condition of a paved surface. Depending on the place it can be anywhere from a few months to about two years old, and each result shows its date. When you need a current picture, you can order a fresh capture separately.
How much does it cost?
Pro is $49 a month for one person and covers up to 100 square miles of search a month. Business is $149 per person a month for teams of 2 to 49 and covers 250 square miles. Enterprise starts at 500 square miles; contact sales. Fresh imagery can be bought separately when the included imagery is too old for the job.
